It is widely used as a gasoline additive or fuel, an ingredient of alcoholic beverages/perfumes/ paints/tinctures and a feedstock for the production of such organic compounds as ethyl esters, diethyl ether, butadiene, among others. Besides, ethanol can be found in hand sanitizer gels, medical wipes and some deodorants.
The fuel industry represents the top consumer of ethanol, accounting for over 83 percent of the total demand. The Americas leave behind other regions in terms of the fuel ethanol production, with Brazil, Canada and the USA being the major producers on a global scale. China, India and some European countries are other prominent manufacturers.
