Coal is a natural combustible mineral rock of dark brown/black graphite-like colour, with its chemical formula depending on the amount of the chemical following elements contained in it: hydrogen, nitrogen, carbon, sodium and oxygen. Peat, lignite, anthracite and graphite are amid the most widely spread types of coal.
Coal reserves can be found in any country, while total reserves are estimated at over 860 billion tonnes. The USA, Russia, India and China are proprietors of the world largest deposits. Coal is mainly made use of in the electric power industry. It is also useful in the making of coke. Asia is the major coal market accounting for over 65% of the global demand.
