In SnapShot 156, Telecomspricing provides an update of the German mobile market, ahead of the introduction of the fourth MNO from 1&1 Drillisch which has acquired a 5G licence.

The 1&1 Drillisch company already is an MVNO provider in Germany using the Telefonica O2 network. It has received 5G spectrum in the auction completed in June 2019 and is preparing to launch 5G services from the beginning of 2021. It has also made a deal to use Telefonica O2’s network until the end of 2025.

Other German MNOs are adjusting their plans to cater for the additional competition, with Telefonica O2 introducing flat rate data plans and Telekom continuing to see an increase in mobile data usage.
