In SnapShot 151 Telecoms Pricing examines the growth of Fixed Wireless Access (FWA). FWA is a high-speed mobile data service which is positioned as an alternative to a fixed line broadband service.

FWA uses beam forming and a high frequency mmWave (milimetre Wave) wireless spectrum to provide a high-speed broadband access that is comparable with fixed ADSL broadband services. The advantages of FWA to the MNO is simply cost, with fibre deployments neccesiting heavy civil engineering costs by comparison. It is also simple to install with a router and modem device capable of being installed by the end user.

FWA is also receiving a boost from the introduction of 5G services, when combined with FWA long-distance spectrum, can provide an alternative to fibre connectivity. In this survey Telecoms Pricing sees how FWA is being positioned by the MNO.
