Andhra Pradesh will build 8,970 kilometers of roads for USD 296.05 million. To improve street lighting and reduce energy consumption, the Kolkata Municipal Lighting Department installed 75,000 LED lights in key areas of the Tollygunge Jadavpur street network to replace conventional sodium lamps. Therefore, the road network's overall growth due to the increasing use of LED lighting on roads will increase the demand for LED lighting in the country.

Smart street lighting is considered an ideal starting point to enable energy savings and operational cost savings. For instance, in July 2020, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir (India) led an effort to install LED street lighting in Srinagar as part of its smart city mission.
