Their laser chips are packaged in a TO (metal can) hermetically sealed/semi-hermetically sealed package, and electrical connection and heat dissipation are achieved through a metal base/pin. The top metal cap may have a transparent window or collimating lens. Some models also integrate a monitoring photodiode to support automatic power control (APC). They are widely used in visible red light indication/alignment, machine vision and sensing, spectral measurement, optical communication/optical interconnection and industrial ranging, test instruments and other fields. The upstream of the industry chain includes epitaxial wafers and chips (GaAs/InP/GaN, etc.), chip manufacturing and coating, TO substrates and leads (Kovar/copper-tungsten/gold plating, etc.), window glass/collimating lenses, bonding wires and die-bonding materials, and sorting and testing equipment; the midstream consists of packaging plants, which complete chip mounting, bonding, capping/laser welding, optical axis and focal length adjustment, reliability and lifespan aging, and grading by power/threshold current/wavelength drift, etc.; the downstream enters module factories (which then manufacture laser modules, ranging modules, and spectral/sensor systems) and end-user OEMs. Gross profit margin is approximately 15%–30%.
