Segments

The company operates in six segments: Electro-Optics, Photonics, Vision Care, Health Care, Pentax, and Other Businesses.

Information Technology

The Electro-Optics Division provides mask blanks and photomasks used in the production of semiconductors and liquid-crystal display (LCD) panels, which are embedded in digital equipments, such as personal computers, LCD televisions, digital cameras, and mobile phones, as well as parts for glass panels of LCDs, glass disks for hard disk drives (HDDs), optical lenses, optical glasses, electronic glasses, and optical communication products.

The Photonics Division applies optics technologies to provide light source devices and equipment that utilize lasers and UV. Its principal products include the defect correction equipment and laser oscillators for precision processing, which are used to assist analysis aid processing during semiconductor and flat-panel display (FPD) manufacturing process, as well as UV light source devices used in the UV resin bonding of such optical parts as optical pickups and camera modules. The company also provides color filters that are used in various optical equipment, as well as specialty glasses for industrial and other applications. These products are used in manufacturing processes for semiconductors, LCD panels, and digital cameras.

Eye Care

The Vision Care Division is engaged in manufacturing and sale of eyeglasses, eyeglass frames, and eyeglass lenses in global markets.

The Health Care Division is responsible for the development of the approximately 150 Eye City stores, a chain of contact lens specialty stores in Japan, serving a total of 6 million customers. It also manufactures and sells intraocular lenses (IOLs) used in the treatment of cataracts.

Pentax

The Pentax business develops and sells a selection of products, including medical devices, digital cameras, digital camera modules, micro lenses, CCTV lenses, lens units for digital cameras, endoscopes for medical use, bone prosthesis, prosthetic bone filler, CHT ceramic hydroxapatite, accessories for cameras, and microlenses.

Other Businesses

The Other Businesses Division includes construction of information systems, and outsourcing.

Markets

The company markets its products in Japan; North America, including the United States of America and Canada; Europe, including the Netherlands, Germany, and the United Kingdom (including South Africa); and Asia, including Singapore, Thailand, Republic of Korea, and Taiwan (including Australia). It also offers products in Saudi Arabia and Brazil.

In March 31, 2009, the company has withdrawn from the crystal glassware business.
