Sales declined across every category of women’s outerwear in the Netherlands in 2012 due to consumers opting for cheaper garments in a weak economy. Within women’s outerwear, the categories with the least negative performance in 2012 were women’s jackets and coats and women’s dresses. Women’s tops also saw less of a decline due to the trend of wearing longer tops (or tunics) in combination with leggings. As a result of this trend, women’s jeans saw a strong decline of 4% in 2012.
