Glycol, glass beads or other thermal buffers reduce short temperature spikes caused by door openings. For ultra-low-temperature freezers, CDC notes that an air probe or a probe specifically designed for ultra-low temperatures may be more appropriate.
Alarm design must balance response speed and false alarms. An immediate alarm for every brief air-temperature change can cause alarm fatigue, while an excessive delay can allow a genuine excursion to continue.
