A wafer clean and dry system is critical wet-process equipment used in semiconductor wafer production, integrated circuit fabrication, and advanced packaging. It removes particles, metal ions, organic contaminants, native oxides, photoresist, etch polymers, polishing slurry, and backside residues from wafer surfaces through chemical solutions, ultrapure water, and controlled physical forces. Rinsing and low-defect drying are completed within the same platform or a continuous automated flow, allowing wafers to leave the system clean, watermark-free, and ready for the next process. Common system architectures include single-wafer spin processing, batch immersion wet benches, centrifugal batch spray processing, and hybrid platforms combining batch and single-wafer modules. Configurable processes may include brush scrubbing, megasonic cleaning, two-fluid jets, high-pressure spraying, ozonated water, sulfuric peroxide mix, RCA cleaning, diluted hydrofluoric acid, and selective wet etching. Drying is generally performed through centrifugal nitrogen drying, IPA-vapor or Marangoni surface-tension drying, hot-IPA drying, or other low-surface-tension methods to reduce watermarks, cross-contamination, and pattern-collapse risks in high-aspect-ratio structures. Principal customers include silicon wafer manufacturers, foundries, memory and logic device manufacturers, power and compound semiconductor producers, MEMS and sensor manufacturers, and advanced packaging companies. Commercial offerings include standard high-volume manufacturing platforms, expandable modular systems, and recipe-specific custom wet benches, while revenue is commonly generated from equipment sales, process modules, spare parts and consumables, upgrades, retrofits, and maintenance services.

The technical role of wafer clean and dry systems is evolving from conventional surface decontamination equipment into a defect-control platform used across multiple process steps. Advanced logic, memory, and three-dimensional devices continue to increase the diversity of materials, the number of stacked films, and the prevalence of high-aspect-ratio structures, narrowing the acceptable process window for removing particles, metals, organics, native oxides, etch polymers, and polishing slurry. Equipment must not only improve removal efficiency but also control material damage, pattern collapse, front-to-back cross-contamination, chemical residues, and watermarks. As a result, precision single-wafer processing, high-throughput batch immersion, centrifugal batch spray, and hybrid batch-plus-single-wafer architectures will coexist over the long term. Single-wafer platforms are suited to advanced nodes, sensitive structures, and rapid recipe changes, while wet benches remain appropriate for standardized high-volume steps that require economies of scale. Batch spray systems offer differentiation in footprint, chemical utilization, and dry-in/dry-out operation. Drying will increasingly determine yield, requiring centrifugal nitrogen, IPA vapor, Marangoni, and hot-IPA methods to be designed in coordination with pattern structures, surface materials, and cleaning chemistry. Competition will expand from basic cleanliness to particle monitoring, closed-loop recipe control, chemical recovery, integrated metrology, equipment health management, and factory automation interfaces.

The principal sources of market demand are the simultaneous capacity expansions in artificial intelligence computing, high-bandwidth memory, advanced logic, power semiconductors, compound semiconductors, and advanced packaging. Global semiconductor manufacturing equipment sales continued to grow in 2025, while investment in 300 mm fabrication equipment is expected to remain elevated from 2026 through 2029. Advanced nodes, DRAM, three-dimensional NAND, and regional manufacturing expansion will increase both the number of cleaning steps and the installed base of cleaning equipment. Green manufacturing requirements will further promote reduced chemical consumption, ozone substitution, chemical recirculation, low-water rinsing, and waste reduction. Growth will therefore come not only from new equipment but also from line upgrades, chamber additions, automated loading, process transfers, spare parts, services, and local supply substitution.

The global competitive landscape consists of a small group of diversified equipment companies serving advanced high-volume manufacturing, regional specialists focused on specific processes and mature wafer sizes, and domestic suppliers accelerating customer qualification. Japanese and U.S. companies have strong positions in high-throughput 300 mm single-wafer cleaning, batch wet processing, advanced-node resist removal, and defect control. European suppliers are differentiated in modular wet benches, batch spray processing, compound semiconductor applications, and flexible customization.
