In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic had a severe impact on retailing in Algeria. Firstly, the Algerian economy was hit by a double whammy in 2020 – COVID-19 and plummeting oil prices. Algeria is highly dependent on oil exports and this led to a devaluation of the dinar and a general increase in inflation.
