A primary mechanism of action for Acthar is the stimulation of the adrenal cortex to secrete endogenous corticosteroids, including cortisol, corticosterone, aldosterone, and a number of weakly androgenic substances. Acthar is used in a variety of conditions, including the treatment of periodic flares associated with multiple sclerosis, infantile spasms, opsoclonus myoclonus syndrome, and nephrotic syndrome.
