Industrial grade polyisobutylene (PIB) is a high molecular weight compound polymerized from isobutene monomers, typically presenting as a colorless or pale yellow viscous liquid or solid state. It is an important synthetic polymer material widely used in various industrial fields, especially in rubber, lubricants, coatings, and cosmetics. Polyisobutylene is a colorless, odorless, non-toxic viscous or semi-solid substance with excellent heat resistance, oxygen resistance, ozone resistance, chemical resistance, weather resistance, UV resistance, acid resistance, and alkali resistance. It has high volume resistivity, low expansion coefficient, does not contain harmful dielectric substances, excellent electrical insulation, and no residual carbon during cracking. In addition to being widely used as a lubricant additive, petroleum additive, putty adhesive, chewing gum additive, and electrical insulation material, it is also widely used in high polymer fields such as rubber. Generally speaking, polyisobutylene is divided into low molecular weight polyisobutene, medium molecular weight polyisobutene, and high molecular weight polyisobutene. Materials with a relative molecular weight between 350 and 3500 are called low molecular weight polyisobutene, products with a relative molecular weight between 10000 and 100000 are considered medium molecular weight products, and products with a relative molecular weight between 100000 and 10 million are considered high molecular weight products. Products with a relative molecular weight of less than 30000 are usually in liquid form, while materials with higher relative molecular weight are in solid form. The excellent atmospheric resistance, aging resistance, weather resistance, and impermeability to water vapor of polyisobutene are very suitable for producing various sealants and insulating glass sealants, which can increase the flexibility and permeability of their products. Polyisobutylene has excellent aging resistance and plasticization, and can be used for rubber modification. Currently widely used in the manufacturing fields of high-voltage insulation self-adhesive tape, rubber sealing strips, etc. After mixing polyisobutene with paraffin or microcrystalline wax, its tensile strength and product brittleness will be increased, especially for packaging frozen foods, which can make it more flexible and acid resistant. Adding polyisobutene to ink acts as a thickening and dispersing agent. This type of ink, such as printing paste ink and polyethylene rotary printing ink, has a thickening effect and prevents ink from drying out. Adding polyisobutene to lubricating grease can improve the viscosity and extreme pressure resistance of its products. Polymer material modification, stretch wrapping film thickening masterbatch, damping grease, etc.
