A Machine Guidance System is an on-board construction guidance system used on construction machinery such as excavators, dozers, graders, compactors, drilling rigs, and piling machines. The core function of a Machine Guidance System is to improve operating accuracy, construction efficiency, and digital jobsite management in earthmoving, road construction, municipal engineering, water conservancy projects, mining, and foundation works. It is an on-board guidance and construction assistance system for construction machinery, rather than the construction machine itself. Machine Guidance Systems are an important part of intelligent construction machinery and digital jobsite operations. They are mainly used on excavators, dozers, graders, loaders, compactors, drilling rigs, piling machines, and other construction equipment. By combining positioning, attitude sensing, jobsite models, and in-cab display terminals, these systems provide operators with real-time guidance on digging depth, slope, elevation, boundary, drilling position, working path, and deviation from the design surface. Their value lies not in the construction machine itself, but in improving operating accuracy, reducing surveying and rework costs, shortening project cycles, and supporting the transition from experience-based construction to data-driven construction.

By product structure, Machine Guidance Systems are generally divided into 2D Machine Guidance Systems and 3D Machine Guidance Systems. 2D systems are mainly based on tilt sensors, IMUs, depth or slope sensors, and display terminals. They are lower in cost, easier to install, and widely used in trenching, slope shaping, foundation excavation, and general earthmoving work. 3D systems further integrate GNSS/RTK, total station/LPS, laser positioning, 3D construction models, and cloud-based data management, enabling real-time matching between the machine and the digital design surface. They are more suitable for road construction, site grading, mining, water conservancy projects, and large infrastructure projects. By technology route, GNSS/RTK-based systems are currently the mainstream, sensor/IMU-based systems mainly support 2D applications, total station/LPS and laser-based systems are used in high-precision or signal-constrained scenarios, while vision, LiDAR, and radar fusion solutions represent the future direction of intelligent and autonomous construction.

By application equipment, Excavator Guidance Systems represent the largest application category, driven by the large installed base of excavators, strong aftermarket demand, and broad use in small and medium-sized construction jobs. Dozer and Grader Guidance Systems have higher unit value and are more commonly used in road construction, site grading, and large-scale earthmoving projects.
