Its core advantage lies in capturing transient wavelength dynamics (such as frequency sweeps, mode hopping, pulses, and wavelength drift). It can measure absolute laser wavelength/frequency, power, and signal-to-noise ratio with a time resolution of microseconds to milliseconds.

With the ever-increasing demand for communication data, there is a need for larger-capacity optical communication transmission systems. This is driving optical component and network equipment manufacturers to use coherent communication modules based on wavelength-tunable lasers in transmission backbones. Currently, the application of wavelength-tunable lasers and coherent modules is further expanding into metropolitan area networks and even access networks. Accurate measurement and wavelength calibration are crucial tests for tunable lasers.
