Biochar carbon sequestration materials are stable carbon-rich solid materials made from wood, bamboo, straw, rice husks, nutshells, livestock and poultry manure, sludge, and other organic residues through pyrolysis, carbonization, cooling, screening, activation, inoculation, or compounding under oxygen-deficient or oxygen-limited conditions. Their core function is to convert carbon derived from atmospheric carbon dioxide in plants or organic waste into aromatic carbon structures that are difficult to degrade, thereby enabling long-term carbon sequestration through soil application, horticultural substrates, forestry restoration, urban greening, building material blending, water and gas treatment, and carbon removal credit projects. These materials not only provide carbon storage functions, but also improve soil pore structure, water and nutrient retention, microbial habitat conditions, and pollutant adsorption capacity. Their typical customers include agricultural growers, horticultural substrate manufacturers, landscaping engineering companies, building material enterprises, environmental treatment companies, local governments, and corporate buyers of high-durability carbon removal credits.

The industrial value of biochar carbon sequestration material is expanding from a traditional soil amendment into an integrated low-carbon material that combines agricultural input, environmental remediation, and carbon removal functions. Its growth is driven by the combined demand for agricultural waste valorization, soil health improvement, corporate net-zero targets, and durable carbon removal procurement.
