Collision avoidance sensors (CAS), detect an object in the path of a moving vehicle so the human operator, or the vehicle?s automated system, can take action to avoid a collision. The most common automobile application is a reverse sensor that alerts drivers to obstacles in their path when backing up. Collision sensors are usually mounted on the front and rear of the vehicle. Once an object is detected, the sensor triggers an audio or visual alarm, or may activate the vehicle?s brakes. Adoption and integration of collision avoidance sensors in passenger and commercial vehicles are expected to result in a decrease in road accidents while providing increased protection to vehicle occupants. Multiple technology-based vehicle collision avoidance sensors, such as radar, camera, ultrasound, and LiDAR, offer active vehicle safety and pre-crash risk mitigation capabilities to vehicles.Automotive is a key driver of this industry. According to data from the World Automobile Organization (OICA), global automobile production and sales in 2017 reached their peak in the past 10 years, at 97.3 million and 95.89 million respectively.
