In 2025, global production of aircraft jet engines reached 972 units, with an average selling price of US$13.26 million per unit. An aircraft jet engine is an air-breathing propulsion device that draws in air, compresses it, and burns it with fuel to produce high-temperature, high-pressure gas, which is then expelled at high speed through a nozzle to generate reaction thrust. It draws in air from the atmosphere, compresses it, and continuously burns it with fuel in the combustion chamber to generate high-temperature, high-pressure gas, which is then accelerated and expelled rearward through a turbine (used to drive the compressor/fan) and a tail nozzle, thereby generating forward thrust. Application areas include civil airliners (narrow-body/wide-body, emphasizing fuel efficiency, reliability, and maintainability), military aviation (fighter jets/bombers, emphasizing thrust-to-weight ratio, high-speed performance, and afterburner requirements for some models), business jets (balancing higher thrust-to-weight ratio and range efficiency), and some UAVs/target drones/cruising platforms (small turbofan/turbojet engines). Generally, it is suitable for flight platforms requiring high-efficiency propulsion at medium to high altitudes and higher speeds. The upstream of the industry chain consists of materials and key process capabilities such as high-temperature alloys, titanium alloys, and composites; the midstream involves engine manufacturers in the design verification, airworthiness certification, final assembly, and testing of core engines and modules such as fans, compressors, combustors, turbines, and control systems; the downstream comprises OEM installation and delivery, and an aftermarket network consisting of airlines, leasing companies, independent MROs, and engine leasing companies. Gross profit margins are approximately 25%?50%.

In terms of technological trends, efficiency is improved through higher bypass ratios, gear transmissions, and more aggressive hot-end cycles in terms of architecture. In terms of materials and processes, weight is reduced and durability and maintainability are improved through high-temperature coatings, composite materials, and additive manufacturing. In terms of operations, unplanned engine dismantling rates are reduced through engine health monitoring and predictive maintenance. At the same time, supply-side bottlenecks and maintenance queues strengthen the financial attributes of spare engine pools, leased and used engine assets, making prices and delivery times more susceptible to 'availability' rather than simply 'technical parameters.' Regionally, North America and Europe maintain their scale advantage with their existing fleets and MRO systems, while the Asia-Pacific region is more likely to be a faster-growing market with more active capital expenditures due to the combined effects of fleet expansion and localization of service networks.
