Strontium-90 (Sr-90) is an artificial radioactive isotope produced during the nuclear fission of heavy nuclides such as uranium-235 and plutonium-239. It is primarily found in spent nuclear fuel and nuclear fuel reprocessing systems. With a physical half-life of approximately 28.8 years, it is a long-lived beta radionuclide. During decay, it sequentially produces yttrium-90 (Y-90) and the stable zirconium-90 (Zr-90), continuously releasing beta radiation energy. Due to its long half-life, stable radiation output characteristics, and high application value, Strontium-90 is typically chemically separated, purified, and sealed to form standardized radioactive source products, subject to strict nuclear safety and radiation protection regulations. In industrial applications, Strontium-90 radioactive sources are mainly used in industrial nuclear instrumentation (such as thickness, density, and level measurement), scientific research and metrological calibration, medical radiotherapy, and special radiation and energy systems, making it one of the most important long-lived beta radioactive sources in the global nuclear isotope application system. This article's statistical scope only covers Strontium-90 sealed radioactive sources and their commercial supply chain, including radioactive source manufacturing, packaging, sales and related services, but excludes nuclear fuel production, spent fuel reprocessing, isotope extraction processes and the terminal equipment system market.

Strontium-90 (Sr-90), a typical high-energy beta radioactive isotope, possesses a long half-life (approximately 28.8 years), stable decay, and strong sustained heat release, making it irreplaceable in applications such as nuclear batteries (RTG radioisotope thermoelectric power generation), industrial thickness measurement and process control sources, radioactive calibration sources, and certain specialized medical and scientific research fields.
