A resistance-to-digital converter is a circuit integrated inside a power IC that combines a calibrated current source and an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) to measure the value of an external resistor, RSET. When the R2D converter is enabled, it turns on the current source and ADC, and uses Ohm's law to calculate the resistance value by measuring the voltage across the external resistor, combined with the known current value and the voltage measurement accuracy of the ADC. In order to measure different ranges of resistance values, the R2D converter may use multiple current source levels for multiple readings. For example, by using two different current source levels, two different voltages can be generated at a fixed external resistance value, where the resistance value that is beyond the ADC measurement range will be measured by taking a second R2D reading using a smaller current source level. This multiple reading process enables accurate measurement of a wider range of resistance values ??within a fixed ADC input voltage range, thereby improving the measurement accuracy and applicability of the power IC.
