The full name of polarizing film is polarizing film. The imaging of liquid crystal displays must rely on polarized light. All liquid crystals have two polarizing films tightly attached to the liquid crystal glass, forming a liquid crystal film with a total thickness of about 1mm. If any polarizer is missing, the LCD panel cannot display images. The reason why polarizing film is called polarizing film is because the polarizing film facing the eyes of ordinary LCD displays is frosted to dissipate surface reflections and scatter light to increase the viewing angle of the LCD display. Polarizing film products are divided into two categories according to their application fields: Tft LCD series polarizing film and black and white series (TN STN OLED) polarizing film. The former is mainly used for color TFT LCD displays, while the latter is mainly used for monochrome and false color LCD displays, as well as 3D goggles and polarized sunglasses (anti glare and anti UV). The main difference between the two is the different performance requirements for polarizing films. Black and white polarizing films include TN and STN, while color polarizing films are divided into two technical routes: TFT-LCD and AMOLED. Currently, LCD is the main industry, and as OLED panels continue to penetrate into large-sized products such as televisions, OLED is the main development trend in the future. However, there is still a small amount of production capacity for black and white polarizing films in China, and their applications and demand are relatively small.In 3D glasses, the polarizing film of the left and right glasses lenses is set to different polarization directions, usually horizontal polarization for the left eye and vertical polarization for the right eye. When the audience wears 3D glasses to watch a 3D movie, the image on the screen is divided into two images with different polarization directions, corresponding to the left and right eyes respectively. Due to slight differences in the images received by the left and right eyes, these differences are fused and processed by the brain, resulting in a sense of three dimensionality. In 2025, global Polarizer for 3D Glasses production reached approximately 53 M Sq m, with an average global market price of around US$ 3.28 per Sq m.

Polarizers for 3D glasses belong to a niche segment in the polarizer market. The demand mainly comes from scenarios such as cinema 3D glasses, passive 3D TVs and monitors, educational displays, exhibition displays, industrial 3D displays, medical 3D imaging and simulation training. Planar polarizers account for approximately 71.05% of sales and are mainly used for disposable cinema 3D glasses and low-cost passive 3D glasses. Curved polarizers account for approximately 28.95% and are mainly used for reusable 3D glasses, clip-on 3D glasses and high-end cinema 3D glasses. The overall scale of this market is small and the growth rate is relatively stable. The demand for traditional 3D TV has significantly weakened, but the demand for 3D cinema screening, themed entertainment, popular science education, industrial simulation, medical training and immersive display still maintains stable demand. In terms of price, ordinary plane polarizers have sufficient competition and low unit prices, mainly relying on batch supply and cost control; curved polarizers have significantly higher unit prices and relatively good gross profit margins due to the requirements for molding, lamination, optical axis consistency, scratch resistance and cleaning resistance. Future opportunities are mainly focused on reusable cinema 3D glasses, lightweight clip-on 3D glasses, high-durability polarized lenses, low-crosstalk circular polarizers, educational and industrial 3D display equipment, and the extended application of AR, VR and spatial display-related optical components. However, polarizers for ordinary disposable 3D glasses will still face price competition and environmentally friendly substitution pressures.
