This reduces the cost and dependence on transporting supplies from Earth, improving the sustainability of deep space exploration, lunar base construction, and long-term Mars colonization. It is one of the core foundational technologies for the future deep space economy and planetary base construction.

ISRU technology is widely considered a key prerequisite for humanity to enter an 'extraterrestrial economic system,' and its long-term prospects are closely related to lunar base construction, Mars landing missions, and the normalization of deep space exploration. With NASA's Artemis program, ESA's Moon Village concept, and commercial space companies advancing lunar mining and resource utilization experiments, ISRU is gradually moving from theoretical research to engineering verification. In the next 10?20 years, ISRU is expected to be the first to achieve water ice extraction and oxygen/fuel production on the moon, forming an 'extraterrestrial resupply station' and significantly reducing the cost of deep space missions.
