The high voltage battery management system is an electronic control unit specifically designed to monitor, protect, and manage the high-voltage battery pack in electric vehicles or energy storage devices; it is often referred to as the 'brain' of the battery pack. It consists of a main control unit, slave control acquisition boards, isolation sampling circuits, high-voltage interlocking, and insulation detection modules. By acquiring parameters such as individual cell voltage, total voltage, charging and discharging current, and cell temperature in real time, it uses algorithms to estimate remaining charge, state of health, and available power. It performs multiple safety protections, including cell voltage balancing, thermal management coordination, and protection against overcharging, over-discharging, overcurrent, overtemperature, and short circuits. It controls the on/off switching of high-voltage relays and completes high-voltage system insulation monitoring and CAN communication with the vehicle controller or charger, ensuring reliable operation of the high-voltage power battery within its safe operating range and maximizing its service life.

Manufacturing Process and Market Trends:

The HVBS process involves first fabricating a multi-layer PCB based on the circuit design, using a high-voltage insulating substrate. Then, SMT (Surface Mount Technology) is used to solder the MCU, AFE (Automatic External Component) power supply, and sampling components to the main board and slave board. Selective wave soldering connects the shunt and high-current terminals. Following this, conformal coating and UV curing are applied to enhance moisture resistance and insulation. After programming and AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) testing, the casing is assembled, and high-voltage interlocking wiring harnesses are crimped. Finally, insulation withstand voltage (EOL) testing and high/low temperature aging verification are completed before the system can be shipped.

As the market demand for 800V high-voltage platforms and energy storage power stations expands, products continue to evolve towards distributed wireless BMS architecture, active balancing technology, ASIL-D functional safety level, AI algorithm, SOC estimation accuracy improvement, BMS and BDU thermal management, and power domain control integration. Vehicle-cloud collaborative full life cycle health management is gradually becoming a standard feature.
