A fluorescent ballast is an electrical control device used in fluorescent lighting systems to regulate and stabilize the electrical current supplied to the lamp and to provide the required starting voltage for lamp ignition. The product is typically designed as a rectangular or elongated enclosure made of metal housing or flame-retardant plastic, containing internal components such as inductive coils, laminated iron cores, capacitors, rectifiers, and electronic control circuits. Once the lamp is lit, the ballast controls the current flow to maintain stable operation and prevent excessive current that could damage the lamp. Electronic ballasts typically operate at high frequencies (often above 20 kHz), which helps reduce flicker, improve luminous efficiency, and extend lamp life.
