It is primarily used in aqueous solutions and emulsion polymerization, featuring a low decomposition temperature and environmentally friendly, cyanide-free properties. This initiator generates free radicals smoothly at low temperatures and is widely used in acrylamide/styrene polymerization and biological tissue clearing techniques.

The core upstream starting materials are isobutyronitrile or azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN), with the imidazoline ring introduced through an iminoesterification reaction. Key auxiliary materials include ethylenediamine (for cyclization) and anhydrous hydrogen chloride (for salt formation). The yield and purity of the upstream raw materials, especially the conversion rate of isobutyronitrile, directly determine the production cost of VA-044 and the color of the final product.
