Nucleoside Antiviral APIs are pharmaceutical-grade active ingredients based on nucleoside analogues, nucleotide analogues or related prodrug structures, used in the manufacture of antiviral finished dosage forms for herpesvirus infection, HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, cytomegalovirus infection and selected broad-spectrum antiviral therapies. Major products include acyclovir, valacyclovir, ganciclovir, valganciclovir, lamivudine, emtricitabine, tenofovir, entecavir, sofosbuvir and remdesivir. Upstream inputs mainly include nucleobases, glycosylation intermediates, chiral intermediates, phosphorylation reagents, protecting-group reagents, coupling agents, catalysts, pharmaceutical-grade solvents, purification resins, activated carbon and GMP-grade packaging materials. Downstream customers are primarily antiviral finished-dose manufacturers, generic pharmaceutical companies, multinational pharmaceutical supply chains, public-health procurement channels, CDMO clients and regional drug manufacturers. On an ex-works basis, global effective capacity was estimated at about 21,500 tons in 2025, with sales volume of about 14,860 tons and an average ex-works price of around USD 146.7/kg. Mature high-volume products such as acyclovir, lamivudine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate are generally priced lower, while higher-barrier products such as valganciclovir, tenofovir alafenamide, sofosbuvir and remdesivir command higher unit prices. From the current market perspective, nucleoside antiviral APIs have entered a relatively mature stage, with demand mainly supported by long-term antiviral therapy, common viral infection treatment and regulated-market generic drug supply. Future competition will shift from simple capacity expansion to process optimization, quality systems, international registrations, green chemistry and stronger API-formulation integration.
