As an alternative technical route, many lithium supplementation additives targeting cathode materials have entered the research scope. Compared to the complex and high-investment anode supplementation, cathode lithium supplementation is much simpler: typically, a small amount of high-capacity material is added during the cathode slurry mixing process; during charging, Li? ions are released from the high-capacity material to compensate for the irreversible capacity loss during the first charge-discharge cycle. Cathode lithium supplementation has the greatest industrial application potential due to its high safety and the fact that it does not require changes to existing battery manufacturing processes. Currently, the main materials used as cathode lithium supplementation additives include lithium-rich compounds, conversion reaction-based nanocomposites, and binary lithium compounds.
