Epoxy Micaceous Iron Oxide Intermediate Coating refers to a factory-manufactured heavy-duty protective coating based on an epoxy resin binder and micaceous iron oxide lamellar pigment, typically supplied as a two-component system cured by polyamide, amine or amine-adduct hardeners. The product is designed to serve as an intermediate barrier layer within multi-coat anti-corrosion systems for steel structures, bridges, marine infrastructure, offshore assets, petrochemical facilities, power plants, wind towers, tanks, pipelines and industrial equipment. Its technical function is to form a dense lamellar barrier that restricts moisture, oxygen and corrosive media ingress, while maintaining adhesion compatibility between primers such as zinc-rich epoxy and subsequent polyurethane, polysiloxane, fluoropolymer or other weather-resistant topcoats. Commercial forms include conventional solventborne epoxy MIO coatings, high-solids low-VOC epoxy MIO buildcoats, waterborne epoxy MIO intermediates and dual-use primer/intermediate systems.
