Made from high-quality synthetic diamond powder, it boasts a thermal conductivity of approximately 600W/M.K and an extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion. Under appropriate processing, the diamond particles and copper alloy form a metallurgical bond, resulting in a copper-diamond composite material with excellent thermal conductivity and a suitable coefficient of thermal expansion. In 2024, global sales of diamond copper will be about 1.5997 million pieces, with a price of about US$103 per piece. The annual production capacity of a conventional production line is roughly between 20,000 and 30,000 pieces. The upstream involves suppliers of synthetic diamond particles or natural diamonds, fine chemical surface treatment and interface modification materials, copper raw materials and copper powder, powder metallurgy and vacuum heat treatment equipment, CVD/HPHT diamond preparation equipment and material testing and characterization equipment manufacturers. The downstream includes power semiconductor packaging and module factories, LED lighting radiators and laser heat sinks, photovoltaic inverters and electric vehicle power modules, communication base stations and data center cooling systems, as well as high-end industrial and aerospace thermal management systems. The downstream consumption of one unit of product can be converted into an example value by mass, that is, 1 kilogram of diamond copper can manufacture approximately 5 typical power module top covers or heat dissipation sub-plates (about 200 grams each), so 1 kilogram corresponds to about 5 downstream consumption. The gross profit margin varies greatly due to the product's technical content and degree of customization, but is usually between 20% and 35%. The gross profit margin of high-end customized or small-batch high-performance products can be higher, while the gross profit margin of bulk standardized products is relatively low. Products can be divided into three types according to parameters: thermal conductivity less than 550W/(m?k), thermal conductivity 550-600W/(m?k), and thermal conductivity greater than 600W/(m?k).Overall, pure copper boasts excellent electrical conductivity and high thermal conductivity (385-400 W/(m?K)), approximately 1.7 times that of pure aluminum. Its CTE, at 17?10??/K, is also lower than pure aluminum (23?10??/K). Compared to aluminum-based composites, copper-based composites require only a smaller amount of reinforcement to match the thermal expansion coefficient of semiconductors, easily achieving higher thermal conductivity. More importantly, copper-based composites not only combine high thermal conductivity and low thermal expansion coefficient to meet thermal management requirements, but also exhibit excellent heat resistance, corrosion resistance, and chemical stability, making them more suitable for extreme service conditions such as high temperatures and corrosive environments, such as nuclear power plants, acid-base environments, and alternating dry-wet-hot and cold-hot environments. Therefore, when density is not a primary consideration, copper-based composites are often an ideal choice for advanced thermal management materials. Diamond-copper composites, in particular, have become a research hotspot for metal-based composites in recent years. Global demand for these materials is expected to grow rapidly with the development of satellite communications, advanced autonomous driving, and the commercialization of 6G communications.
