Carbon dioxide mineralization carbon sequestration materials are low-carbon materials that use captured or recycled carbon dioxide, natural or recycled calcium and magnesium minerals, alkaline industrial byproducts, demolished concrete, steel slag, fly ash and other feedstocks as primary reaction inputs. Through processes such as accelerated carbonation, aqueous mineralization, gas-solid reactions and reactor-based mineralization, carbon dioxide is converted into stable carbonates and embedded in aggregates, cementitious materials, carbonate powders, concrete products and fillers. These materials address the high carbon emissions of cement, concrete, aggregates and industrial fillers, as well as the low-value utilization of industrial solid waste. Their core value lies in converting carbon dioxide from a gaseous emission into a mineral component that can remain stable over the long term, while also forming products that can be sold, transported and integrated into existing building-material and industrial-material systems. Typical applications include concrete blending, aggregate replacement, block manufacturing, cement replacement, industrial fillers and solid waste resource utilization. Major customers include cement producers, ready-mix concrete companies, precast component manufacturers, building-material companies, industrial filler users, solid waste treatment companies and carbon reduction project developers.

The industrial value of carbon dioxide mineralization carbon sequestration materials is shifting from a single decarbonization concept toward a tradable material attribute. The building materials industry has a massive consumption base, and cement production remains an important global source of carbon emissions, with clinker production representing the core emissions-intensive stage. This creates clear substitution opportunities for mineralized aggregates, mineralized cementitious materials and recycled concrete aggregates. Compared with standalone carbon capture and storage, mineralized materials can fix carbon dioxide into saleable building materials or fillers, combining carbon reduction with physical material output. They not only address demand for low-carbon building materials, but also provide a higher-value utilization pathway for industrial solid waste, demolished concrete and alkaline mineral byproducts.

The growth drivers of this industry mainly come from low-carbon building material procurement, industrial byproduct resource utilization, life-cycle carbon reduction in construction and demand for carbon removal projects. As carbon management infrastructure, green building evaluation systems and low-carbon material certification mechanisms continue to improve, the commercialization conditions for mineralization-based carbon sequestration materials are becoming more favorable. For these materials, the most important commercialization direction is not to build an entirely new building materials system, but to integrate into existing cement plants, concrete plants, aggregate plants, solid waste treatment facilities and precast component factories. Revenue can be generated through low-clinker substitution, recycled aggregate enhancement, carbonate powder supply and low-carbon product certification, allowing carbon reduction value, material value and solid waste resource utilization value to be combined within the same product system.

Production regions are currently more concentrated in Europe, North America and demonstration-project markets, where earlier layouts have been established in mineralized aggregates, carbonate powders, mineralized cementitious materials and recycled concrete carbon sequestration. Sales regions are expected to first concentrate in markets with more developed low-carbon building regulations, green procurement systems, infrastructure demand and building material certification frameworks, including North America, Europe and the gradually accelerating Asia-Pacific market. As low-carbon cement, carbon-storing building materials and recycled aggregates enter commercial projects, industry competition will shift from simple carbon sequestration volume toward material performance, cost, certification, supply stability and compatibility with existing building material standards. Future product pathways with greater scaling potential will focus on synthetic limestone aggregates, mineralized supplementary cementitious materials, carbonate powders, recycled concrete aggregates and low-carbon concrete products.
