Active magnesia-aluminum spinel is a type of highly active powder or fine particle material with magnesia-aluminum spinel as the main crystal phase. The chemical formula can usually be expressed as MgAl2O4, but industrial products often contain a certain proportion of excess aluminum oxide or magnesium oxide to adjust performance; the so-called activity mainly refers to its higher specific surface area, finer particle size and higher defects and surface energy, thus having stronger sintering reaction capacity and faster solid phase reaction rate at high temperatures. , can quickly form a dense spinel structure with alumina, magnesium oxide and other systems or serve as reactive aggregate and matrix in refractory materials to improve the material's resistance to thermal shock, slag erosion and structural stability. Typical applications are concentrated in steel metallurgy, cement rotary kilns, glass kilns, high-temperature ceramics and functional fillers. The application side shows a trend of extending from traditional metallurgical refractory to high-end customized refractory and functional fillers. The cost end is significantly affected by fluctuations in magnesium and aluminum sources. The periodicity of magnesia, magnesium oxide and alumina prices will be transmitted to spinel costs. At the same time, energy consumption and environmental compliance costs will rise, making companies with their own raw materials and low-energy consumption processes more profitable. Product routes will continue to diverge into two ends. Highly active fine powder and low impurity versions are used for high-end castables and self-flowing material systems, while granulated and dense particle versions are used for aggregates and structural layers. Companies often cover different furnace lining parts through product matrices to increase customer stickiness. Substitutions and risks mainly come from adjustments to the raw material system and refractory structure, such as the competition between different magnesia raw material routes and spinel prefabricated block solutions.
