Active Fibers refer to specialty gain fibers whose cores are doped with rare-earth ions and other active dopants to provide optical gain under external pumping. Upstream inputs mainly comprise high-purity synthetic silica and preform fabrication platforms (MCVD/OVD/VAD with solution-doping chemistries), high-purity rare-earth oxides or salts (Yb, Er, Tm, Ho, etc.), co-dopants and index modifiers such as Al, P, and F, ultra-low-OH and low-metal-impurity control systems, UV acrylate or polyimide coatings, and fiber-drawing towers with in-line geometry, attenuation, and concentricity monitoring. Downstream customers primarily include industrial fiber-laser OEMs and pulsed/ultrafast laser integrators, telecom and data-center fiber amplifier and module suppliers, and equipment makers and core component vendors serving semiconductors, new energy, aerospace, and precision manufacturing. On an ex-works basis and measured by effective shipped length, global active-fiber nameplate capacity in 2025 is about 390 million meters, with actual sales of about 311 million meters, implying a blended average ex-works price of approximately USD 4.12 per meter; driven by product mix (share of PM and high-end LMA fibers, and the split between telecom amplification and industrial lasers), manufacturing yield and batch-consistency requirements, lifetime and reliability specifications, qualification cycles, and customer bargaining power, industry gross margins typically fall within the 40%?70% range.
