Welcome to the August issue of Amino Acids China E-News.

With regard to company dynamics, four listed enterprises that engage in amino acid business released their semi-annual reports for H1 2023.

Bluestar Adisseo reported year-on-year decreases in its H1 results. Additionally, it formally announced the plan to build new capacity for solid methionine.
Meihua Group's H1 results also declined YoY, which was mainly attributed to effects of amino acid products.
Zhejiang Hugeleaf's H1 results slid YoY as well, but its L-Tryptophan delivered solid financial performance.
Jingjing Pharma's H1 revenue rose YoY, thanks to the sales growth of additive products. Besides, the construction of its 25,000 t/a amino acid food additives project is expected to commence in Oct.

With regard to project progress:

The environmental protection (EP) facilities in Nanjing Bluestar Adisseo's second-phase 180,000 t/a liquid MHA-FA project passed acceptance inspection. The results were made public.
The environmental impact report of Heilongjiang Nuopu's 'construction project of capacity expansion and technical renovation for amino acids as well as building pilot-scale experiment workshop' was published before being submitted.
The EP facilities in Shanghai Ajinomoto's 'production line retrofitting project' passed acceptance inspection. Thanks to this project, the company's production capacity for amino acids has been increased by 685.1 t/a. The results were made public.
EP facilities in Jinyao Pharma's 1,100 t/a amino acid project passed acceptance inspection. The results were made public.

With regard to government-related news:

China National Centre for Food Safety Risk Assessment solicited public opinions on the drafts of two revised national food safety standards, namely National Food Safety Standard—Standard for the Use of Nutritional Fortification Substances in Foods and the National Food Safety Standard—Food Additives—L-Arginine.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) released the latest list of approved registrations of imported feed and feed additives, which includes newly-approved or renewed registration entries. 12 registration entries are pertinent to amino acids.
The scope of application of feed additive chromium methionine chelate was expanded, according to MARA.

With regard to imports and exports:

In H1 2023, China's import volume of methionine exhibited an upward trajectory in the first three months, but kept declining in the last three months; while the monthly average import price of methionine was sliding overall. China's total export volume of methionine in H1 2023 dipped by 4.19% over that in H1 2022; the monthly average export price of methionine was steadily dropping.


With regard to product prices:

The ex-works prices of 98.5% L-Lysine hydrochloride and 70% L-Lysine sulphate in Aug. continued to rebound and both rose MoM.
