Segments

The company operates in two segments, the Western Segment and the Eastern Segment.

Western Segment

The Western Division operates approximately 55 facilities in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Texas and Wyoming. The segment comprises three business units: Oilfield, Drill Site and Industrial.

The Oilfield business unit involves in the processing and disposal of oilfield-generated wastes, including water recycling and disposal, clean oil terminalling, custom treating, landfill, and onsite services. The segment recovers and resells crude oil from oilfield waste, rents drill cuttings management and solids control equipment. It also involves in the sale of recovered crude oil for its account.

The Drill Site business unit engages in the supply and operation of drill site processing equipment. It also provides environmental services comprising environmental projects and drilling waste management services. Drill site processing equipment comprises two main groups of equipment: solids control and drill cuttings. Solids control equipment consists of centrifuges and ancillary equipment that can be used on any drilling location to remove unwanted solids from any type of drilling fluid and operate closed loop systems where the drilling muds and water can be reused. Drill cuttings equipment is specialized to gas wells drilled using oil-based drilling muds. This equipment is used to recover oil-based fluids for reuse in the active mud system and to manage the drill cuttings to minimize transportation and disposal of solid waste.

The Industrial business unit engages in oil recycling, including the collection and processing of waste lube oils and the sale of finished products. It also includes industrial fixed facilities, including its service centers and transport.

Eastern Segment

The Eastern Segment provides industrial waste management, recycling, and other environmental services to markets located in eastern Canada and the United States through its integrated network of approximately 30 facilities. This network features an engineered non-hazardous solid waste landfill located in Stoney Creek (SCL) with an annual permitted capacity of 750,000 metric tonnes of waste per year. The network also includes a lead-acid battery recycling facility with two long body kilns, located in Ville Ste-Catherine, Quebec (VSC) with an annual capacity of approximately 80,000 MT.

The segment comprises Quebec/Atlantic Canada business unit and Ontario business unit.

The Quebec/Atlantic Canada business unit includes: VSC, a lead-acid battery recycling facility in Quebec; waste treatment and transfer fixed facilities that process, consolidate, and bulk hazardous waste; and onsite services, including a fleet of specialized vehicles and equipment for waste transport and onsite processing.

The Ontario business unit includes SCL, an engineered non-hazardous solid waste landfill; waste treatment and transfer fixed facilities that process, consolidate, and bulk hazardous waste; and onsite services, including a fleet of specialized vehicles and equipment for emergency response, waste transport, and onsite processing.

Acquisitions

In December 2008, the Eastern Division acquired a bioremediation facility from Newpark Canada Inc. The facility, located in Antigonish County, Nova Scotia, delivers bioremediation services for treatment of hydrocarbon contaminated drilling wastes.
