According to our (Global Info Research) latest study, the global Methanol-to-aviation Fuel Technology market size was valued at US$ 37.04 million in 2025 and is forecast to a readjusted size of US$ 288 million by 2032 with a CAGR of 34.2% during review period.

Methanol-to-aviation fuel (MTL) technology refers to a process route that uses methanol as the core platform molecule, and through a series of chemical processes such as catalytic conversion, oligomerization, and hydrogenation refining, converts methanol into synthetic hydrocarbon fuels that meet aviation kerosene standards (Jet A/Jet A-1). Essentially, it's a carbon chain reconstruction process of ''methanol ? hydrocarbon intermediates ? aviation kerosene fractions,'' typically relying on molecular sieve catalysts to dehydrate methanol into olefins, which are then produced through oligomerization, isomerization, and hydrogenation steps to generate aviation fuel components in the C8?C16 range. The core advantage of this technology lies in its ability to use coal-based methanol, natural gas-based methanol, or green hydrogen + CO?-based methanol as upstream inputs, thus ensuring compatibility with renewable energy systems. It is considered one of the important pathways for ''electric fuel (ptL)'' and carbon-neutral aviation fuel.

In terms of prospects, MTL technology is in the early stages of industrialization, transitioning to demonstration and scale-up. Large-scale commercial plants have not yet been established, but its growth potential is strong, driven by the demand for carbon-neutral aviation fuels. The aviation industry's pressure to reduce emissions is driving the parallel development of multiple low-carbon fuel pathways. Compared to the fatty acid ester (HEFA) route, which is limited by oil feedstocks, the MTJ route has the potential advantage of ''unlimited expansion of renewable methanol,'' and is therefore considered to be an important supplementary route in the medium to long term. However, it still faces bottlenecks such as catalyst lifespan, selectivity control, reforming energy consumption, and insufficient experience in large-scale engineering.
