Abstract:

Between 2011 and 20112, there were almost 4 million babies born in the United States, a 1% decrease from the previous year. Every newborn has to be medically checked and evaluated by medical staff. Simultaneously, the baby needs to remain warm and has to learn regulate its own temperature. To help start the checking processes and retain body temperature, the baby is placed into an infant warmer. Heat is provided from an overhead heater, and the mattress can be heated as well. If the baby is healthy, it only stays in this warmer for a few hours before it goes home. These warmers are available in various types and styles. More medical-related features like resuscitation can be added, or the warmer can be customized with aesthetic options based on a hospital’s preferences: for example, a wood trim.
