Low-dielectric solder mask ink is a functional electronic chemical used for outer-layer protection and solder mask patterning on high-speed and high-frequency PCBs. It is usually supplied as liquid photoimageable, direct-imaging, thermally curable, or inkjet formulations. Its core indicators are low dielectric constant (Dk) and low dissipation factor (Df), while also balancing resolution, adhesion, solder heat resistance, chemical resistance, insulation reliability, and halogen-free environmental requirements. It is mainly used in 5G communications, servers, automotive radar/ADAS, RF/microwave boards, IC substrates, and HDI boards, helping reduce signal attenuation and impedance shift in outer-layer traces. The product's overall gross margin is approximately 35%.

Demand for low-dielectric solder mask ink is driven by the continued outward migration of high-speed signal links. AI servers, switches, 5G base stations, millimeter-wave radar, and high-end HDI boards are more sensitive to outer-layer trace loss. The solder mask layer is no longer only a protective material, but also a key auxiliary material affecting impedance, insertion loss, and yield.

On the supply side, the market is still dominated by Japanese, European/U.S., and Taiwanese manufacturers. Taiyo Ink, Huntsman, Tamura, Eternal Materials, and others have customer certification advantages in high-reliability and high-frequency products, while Chinese companies are accelerating substitution through communication boards, automotive boards, and LDI solder mask systems. Formulation barriers in this category are concentrated in low-polarity resins, PPE or active ester modification, low-loss filler dispersion, development window, and long-term insulation reliability. Customer validation cycles are long, so high-end products usually have higher prices and margins than general green solder mask ink.

Future growth is mainly constrained by two factors: some RF designs use solder mask opening, solder mask removal, or special surface treatment to avoid solder mask layer loss; meanwhile, ordinary LPI solder mask ink still has cost advantages in some mid- and low-frequency applications. However, as high-speed PCB line width and spacing continue to shrink, AI server link rates increase, and automotive electronics upgrade toward high-frequency radar and domain controllers, low-Dk/low-Df solder mask ink will gradually shift from small-batch high-end validation to more stable mass-production procurement.
