Vietnam Animal feed Standard Report Q2/2016
In recent years, the Vietnam’s livestock industry has developed at notable pace. Since 1990, the industry grew stably with the average growth rate of 5.27% per year. Poultry raising industry witnessed the greatest growth rate for the last 15 years. China still occupies the leading position with 179.93 million tons from 8550 animal-feed factories of the country.
The animal-feed industry grew strongly and rapidly due to the positive incentive of renovation technology, the encouragement of foreign and domestic investments so businessmen has invested notably into the industry.
According to Vietnam Industry Research and Consultant (VIRAC), demand for feed in Vietnam was always 10%/ year. Vietnam consumes 15829.3 thousand tons of feed in 2014, compound growth rate from 2015-2022 is expected to be 6.4%, and market size will be 10.55 billion USD in 2022. Poultry feed consumption accounts for the largest (39.5%) in 2014, the compound growth is expected to be the highest of 6.6%, followed by feed for pigs with estimation of 8605.7 thousand tons in 2022, and the compound rate of 6.2%. Hence the potential of the industry is really high and that explains for the significant growth of the industry regarding quantity and types of livestock as well as physical capital.
For the past 15 years, there are many big companies in the world took part in feed and aquatic goods production such as FDI from Thailand (join-stock company), North Korea (Grobest, Uni President, Asia Nutrition), China (Thanglong, Tongwei, Hoa Chen, etc.), Korea (CJ Master), France (Tomboy, Proconco), America (Cargill). These companies are growing and dominating domestic market such as Vietnam CP company (20%), Cargill (8%), Pronconco (8%), etc regarding food for poultry, cattle. Regarding feed for shrimps, 3 FDI companies are Grobest, Uni President, CP take up more than 80% of market share with annual production of more than 600.000 tons. It is expected that the animal feed market in the country will grow by roughly 13 – 15%/year. In 2015, Vietnam needed about 18 – 20 mil tons of industrial animal feed and it is forecast that by 2020, this number can reach 25 – 26 mil tons. The market demand is still high, however domestic production can’t meet the demand
