The company reported top-line results from the Phase 3 DERBY and OAKS studies evaluating intravitreal pegcetacoplan, an investigational targeted C3 therapy, in 1,258 adults with geographic atrophy (GA) secondary to age-related macular degeneration (AMD). By inhibiting complement centrally, at the level of C3, AMY-101 and emerging 4th-generation compstatins, being developed by Amyndas, may prove more effective in treating a wide range of complement-mediated diseases than is possible with partial inhibitors of complement (such as anti-C5 agents) or other C3 inhibitors. It is currently being evaluated in Phase II stage of development for the treatment of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome Due to SARS-CoV-2 Infection and Gingivitis.
