A Superconducting Magnetic Resonance Instrument (SMRI) is a type of scientific instrument that uses superconducting materials to generate high-intensity magnetic fields for the purpose of studying materials and biological samples.

The principle behind an SMRI is based on Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), a technique that uses the magnetic properties of atomic nuclei to study the structure and properties of molecules. In an SMRI, the sample is placed inside a strong magnetic field generated by superconducting coils, which are maintained at very low temperatures using liquid helium.

The magnetic field induces a magnetic moment in the atomic nuclei of the sample, which is then excited using radio frequency pulses.
