The Percutaneous Puncture Robot is used for percutaneous puncture procedures, which are primarily procedures to collect tissue samples for diagnostic purposes, such as the detection of early stage lung cancer, breast cancer and prostate cancer. During the biopsy procedure, the tissue sample is removed from the suspected target anatomy for further pathological examination. While traditional biopsy methods rely on the radiologist's manual insertion of the needle, the robotic-assisted method provides greater rigidity and precision through a more stable robotic arm than the manual method. It allows for a more accurate loop of the needle with the tissue sample. Imaging techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound and CT are used to localise the target anatomy and use image feedback to guide the needle to the target anatomy. The percutaneous puncture surgery robot also has the ability to perform several procedures such as nephrostomy lithotripsy for the removal of kidney stones. The needle is inserted through a tiny incision in the patient's back and the kidney stone is removed.
