KI must be consumed before or shortly after exposure to radioactive iodine for better results.It is effective only against radioactive iodine and not against other types of radiation. Oxidation of ferrous ferrocyanide salts produces Prussian blue that is used for the treatment of thallium poisoning or radioactive cesium poisoning.
