They are primarily used with label-free molecular interaction analysis systems such as SPR, HT-SPR, BLI, and GCI. Estimated gross margin is approximately 65%.

Demand side: Driven by antibody discovery, recombinant protein interactions, fragment drug screening, and early-stage biopharma QC. His-tags remain one of the most common protein expression and purification tags. Ni-NTA surfaces enable directional capture under mild conditions and can be regenerated with EDTA or imidazole, providing high throughput efficiency for method development and multi-target screening.

Supply side: Comprised of instrument ecosystem consumables (e.g., Biacore, Octet) and compatible chips from XanTec, Carterra, Nicoya, BioNavis, etc. Single-dentate NTA chips are lower priced but less stable; tri- or multi-dentate NTA, thick hydrogel, and high-throughput array chips command higher prices. Profitability primarily comes from surface chemistry, system compatibility, and batch consistency.
