The global Turbidity Sensors market size is predicted to grow from US$ 343 million in 2025 to US$ 609 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.2% from 2026 to 2032.

Turbidity Sensors measure light passing through a sample of water. The light transmitted through the sample is dependent on the amount of soiled particles in the water. These devices are ideally suited for use in washing machines & dishwashers as well as other water purity type applications. As the particles increase, the light transmitted decreases. The measurement produced by the turbidity sensors enables the machine to run for shorter periods, generating energy savings for the consumer and long term environmental benefits.

In 2025, global Turbidity Sensors sales volume reached approximately 2.8 million units, with an average price of approximately US$ 124 per unit.

1. Regulatory compliance and continuous water-quality monitoring are keeping demand stable in municipal water and wastewater treatment. Turbidity is a core water-quality parameter because it is directly linked to filtration performance, suspended solids, and possible microbial risk. In drinking water treatment, regulators require strict turbidity control; for example, the U.S. EPA states that conventional or direct filtration systems must keep turbidity at or below 0.3 NTU in at least 95% of monthly samples, and it must not exceed 1 NTU at any time. This supports steady demand for online turbidity analyzers, low-range nephelometric sensors, portable meters, and laboratory turbidity meters in water treatment plants, distribution systems, and compliance monitoring. For market reports, municipal water and wastewater treatment should be treated as the largest and most stable demand base for turbidity sensors.

2. The market is moving from manual sampling toward online, smart, and connected sensors. Traditional turbidity testing relied heavily on laboratory or portable meters, but customers increasingly prefer online sensors that provide continuous measurement, automatic data logging, remote alarms, and integration with SCADA or IoT water-quality platforms. This trend is strongest in drinking water plants, wastewater plants, industrial discharge monitoring, aquaculture, and environmental stations, where operators need faster response to abnormal turbidity changes. Recent research on IoT-based water-quality monitoring also shows increasing use of multi-parameter systems that integrate turbidity with pH, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, TDS, and temperature. As a result, suppliers are differentiating through self-cleaning probes, anti-fouling design, digital communication, low-maintenance calibration, and cloud-based monitoring functions.

3. Application demand is expanding from drinking water into industrial process control, environmental monitoring, food & beverage, power, and high-solids wastewater. Different applications require different sensor technologies: low-turbidity potable water usually uses nephelometric sensors, while wastewater, sludge, chemicals, food & beverage, power, and high-fluctuation processes often require suspended-solids sensors or absorption-based sensors. This creates a trend toward application-specific products rather than one universal sensor, with higher-value opportunities in rugged submersible probes, hygienic inline sensors, high-range wastewater sensors, and multi-angle/ratiometric sensors for color or particle-size compensation.
