Reprocessing and Recycling of Nuclear Fuel is an industrial process and technological system for spent fuel after reactor use, aiming to achieve a closed-loop cycle of nuclear fuel resources. Reprocessing (chemical separation) is the core process, referring to the separation of valuable materials from spent fuel using chemical methods: approximately 96% reusable uranium and 1% plutonium, separated from approximately 3% high-level radioactive waste. Recycling then uses the separated uranium and plutonium to create new nuclear fuel assemblies and return them to the reactor for reuse, thereby significantly improving the utilization rate of uranium resources and reducing the volume and long-term toxicity of high-level radioactive waste requiring eventual geological disposal.
