A complex programmable logic device (CPLD) is a programmable logic device with complexity between that of PALs and FPGAs, and architectural features of both. The main building block of the CPLD is a macrocell, which contains logic implementing disjunctive normal form expressions and more specialized logic operations. A more Complex PLD that consists of an arrangement of multiple SPLD-like blocks on a single chip. Alternative names sometimes adopted for this style of chip are Enhanced PLD (EPLD), Super PAL, Mega PAL, and others. CPLDs operate on the lowest end of the programmable logic density spectrum. CPLDs are single-chip, nonvolatile solutions characterized by instant-on and universal interconnect.
