In 2025, global chip-level current sensor production reached approximately 21692 k units, the average price is 2.5 usd/unit. Chip-level current sensors are current sensing devices that integrate Hall elements or magnetoresistive sensing units, signal conditioning and amplification circuits, offset correction and temperature compensation modules in a single semiconductor chip or miniature SOP/DFN package. They can directly pass the current to be measured through a conductor or PCB copper foil and use the magnetic field induction principle to measure the current value non-contactly and provide feedback with analog voltage, proportional output or digital signal. They do not require bulky magnetic cores and external operational amplifier circuits. They are solid-state miniaturized non-invasive current sensors and are commonly used in photovoltaic inverters, automotive BMS, motor drives, server power supplies and industrial frequency converters to achieve high-precision isolated current detection and overcurrent protection.

Manufacturing Process and Market Trends:

Chip-level current sensors are first formed on the surface of a silicon wafer using CMOS or BiCMOS photolithography to create Hall elements or magnetoresistive sensing units. These are then integrated with pre-amplifier, temperature compensation, and digital interface circuitry. After wafer testing, the wafer is diced and bonded or flip-chip-mounted to a lead frame, then injection molded into SOP DFN or QFN packages. After isolation, withstand voltage, and high/low temperature aging screening, the sensor is shipped.

As the market demand for high-precision isolated current detection increases with the 800V platform photovoltaic energy storage for new energy vehicles and industrial servo systems, products continue to evolve towards replacing coreless miniaturized high-frequency wideband ASIL-D automotive-grade certification with TMR GMR high-sensitivity magnetic materials and integrating I2C SPI SENT digital interface self-diagnostic functions. Furthermore, they are developing towards co-packaging with power module SiC GaN drivers and intelligent online calibration throughout the entire life cycle.
