MLCCs are chip-type passive electronic components made by alternately stacking ceramic dielectric layers and metal internal electrode layers, followed by co-firing and external termination formation. They are mainly used for decoupling, bypassing, filtering, voltage stabilization, coupling, energy buffering, and noise suppression in electronic circuits. MLCCs feature compact size, high capacitance density, low equivalent series resistance, strong high-frequency performance, high reliability, and compatibility with surface-mount assembly. They are among the most widely used basic electronic components in smartphones, computers, servers, communication base stations, automotive electronics, industrial control systems, medical equipment, and aerospace electronics. Major production bases are concentrated in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan China, and Mainland China, with leading manufacturers including Murata, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, TDK, TAIYO YUDEN, YAGEO, KYOCERA, Walsin, Fenghua, Three-Circle, and Eyang.

In 2025, global MLCCshipments reached approximately 6.4?7.0 trillion pieces. General-purpose small-size MLCCs for consumer electronics, communications, and computing equipment still contributed the majority of shipment volume, while electric vehicles, AI servers, data centers, automotive electronics, and high-reliability industrial electronics significantly increased the revenue weight of high-capacitance, high-voltage, low-impedance, soft-termination, and high-reliability MLCCs. Based on manufacturer-level shipment value, the global blended FOB price of MLCCs was approximately USD 3.5?4.0 per thousand pieces in 2025.

The global MLCC market is shifting from a consumer-electronics-led cycle to a broader growth phase supported by consumer electronics, automotive electronics, AI servers, communications infrastructure, and industrial electronics. Smartphones, notebook computers, and home appliances still provide a large shipment base, but incremental growth is increasingly coming from electric vehicles, autonomous driving systems, 800 V high-voltage platforms, automotive power management, 5G base stations, data centers, and AI servers. At the same time, automotive electronics are driving demand for AEC-Q200 automotive-grade MLCCs, soft-termination MLCCs, high-voltage MLCCs, and high-temperature-stable MLCCs, encouraging manufacturers to continue investing in material formulation, thin-layer stacking, sintering control, and reliability validation.

The main market challenges include supply-demand mismatch, cyclical price volatility, upstream material security, and high concentration of advanced production capacity. Although each MLCC carries a low unit value, the manufacturing barrier is high, with core competence lying in ultra-thin dielectric layers, nickel internal electrodes, ceramic powders, stacking precision, sintering consistency, and defect control. Japanese, South Korean, and Taiwan China suppliers still dominate high-end product segments, while Mainland Chinese manufacturers are catching up in general-purpose low-voltage products and selected automotive and high-capacitance specifications. However, high-end server-grade, automotive high-reliability, and miniature high-capacitance products still require long qualification cycles. Over the next few years, market growth will not rely only on shipment expansion, but increasingly on product-mix upgrading, automotive qualification, higher capacitance, miniaturization, and higher reliability. For suppliers, the ability to enter long-term qualification systems of automotive, AI server, communications equipment, and industrial customers will become the key factor behind competitive differentiation.
