For HVDC and submarine cables, materials must further control DC conductivity, space charge, electric-field stability under temperature gradients, polarity-reversal behavior and marine-environment durability. Future competition will depend not only on resin formulation and processing cost, but also on material-system design, clean manufacturing, extrusion stability, long-term aging performance, system qualification, quality traceability and finished-cable yield.
