A VPSA Oxygen Generator is a non-cryogenic air separation device that uses air as a raw material and electricity as the primary energy source. It utilizes the selective adsorption capacity of zeolite or lithium-based molecular sieves for components such as nitrogen, moisture, and carbon dioxide, adsorbing under low or slightly positive pressure and desorbing and regenerating under vacuum conditions to continuously produce oxygen-enriched gas. Typical product oxygen concentrations are mostly in the range of 80%–95%, with common industrial-grade purity being 90%–94%/95%. Compared to PSA (Polyoxygen Separator) oxygen production, VPSA typically uses a low-pressure blower for air supply and a vacuum pump for adsorbent regeneration, making it suitable for medium to high flow rates, continuous oxygen use, and scenarios requiring lower oxygen purity than high-purity oxygen from cryogenic air separation systems.

The market value of VPSA oxygen generators is gradually shifting toward on-site oxygen supply system solutions. Rather than simply selling a single oxygen generation unit, VPSA systems provide a continuously operating on-site gas supply solution built around end-user requirements such as oxygen purity, oxygen flow rate, load fluctuation, energy consumption, operational stability, and long-term maintenance cost. Compared with purchased liquid oxygen and cryogenic air separation units, VPSA is better suited to medium- and large-scale industrial applications requiring continuous oxygen supply, typically within an oxygen purity range of approximately 90%–95%. Compared with conventional small PSA systems, VPSA generally reduces unit oxygen production energy consumption through low-pressure adsorption and vacuum desorption, making it more suitable for large-flow oxygen supply requirements. Sumitomo Seika classifies PSA/PVSA/VPSA/VSA as on-site oxygen generation technologies that use adsorbents to remove nitrogen from air and produce oxygen at approximately 90%–93% purity; Linde’s VPSA system also emphasizes its ability to produce oxygen at around 94% purity and serve multi-industry on-site oxygen applications.

From the perspective of enterprise product positioning, VPSA oxygen generators have a clear attribute of “equipment manufacturing + process engineering + long-term operation and maintenance.” Their competitive barriers are not limited to the adsorption tower itself. International industrial gas companies such as Linde place greater emphasis on on-site oxygen supply solutions, industry process know-how, operational reliability, and long-term service capabilities. Compressed air and gas equipment companies such as Atlas Copco focus more on modular design, oil-free systems, variable-flow blower/vacuum equipment, energy-efficient operation, and wide turndown capability. Chinese and other Asian air separation equipment manufacturers typically have advantages in project customization, engineering delivery, cost control, and localized services. According to Linde’s public materials, its VPSA process is suitable for producing oxygen at 90%–94% purity and features low unit energy consumption, simple start-up, and easy load adjustment. From the demand side, the mainstream market for VPSA oxygen generators is concentrated in glass, non-ferrous metals, steel, cement and lime, pulp and paper, environmental and wastewater treatment, chemical oxidation, aquaculture, and selected industrial combustion applications.
